Take part and use the AURORA Energy Tracker today, available for iOS, Android and on the Web.
AURORA is demonstrating how people can make a difference through the choices they make, reducing 13-20% of all greenhouse gas emissions linked to residential energy use and 13% linked to transport choices. In addition, the project will empower people to take ownership of new community solar energy projects.
AURORA will show at least 7,000 citizens how they can make a difference through the choices they make, to reduce the emissions they are responsible for.
By crowdfunding local solar energy plants, with shares as low as €20, each participating citizen can become an active “prosumer” (someone who both consumes and produces energy). In the long run, this will help democratise the governance of the community and its energy systems.
Participants will act as citizen researchers by recording their monthly energy consumption on a user-friendly mobile app. They will receive personalised recommendations to improve their energy consumption habits and reduce their carbon footprint.
Five local energy communities have been established in different locations across Europe:

Inspiring students of information and communication technologies to dedicate their professional careers to the climate challenge is the goal of the colloquium scheduled for February 14th at the auditorium of the South Campus of UPM. During a two-hour session, the ambassadors will draw from their experiences to address all audience questions and showcase their own professional journeys as examples of the interdisciplinary approach necessary to confront this challenge. We look forward to seeing you there!
We invite you to attend the 9th Slovenian Photovoltaic Conference, which will take place on 7 June 2023 at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Tržaška cesta 25, Ljubljana. The conference is organized by the Slovenian Photovoltaics Technology Platform, SIST – Slovenian Institute for Standardization and the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics LPVO Laboratorij za fotovoltaiko in optoelektroniko.
The AURORA project, the ŠEK Student Energy Club and the AURORA App will also be presented at the conference.
This citizen science initiative continues a series of monthly workshops, contests, and activities started in March with the open dialogue “Climate Change and Energy Crisis”. The overarching objective is to increase awareness among young people about their own relationship with energy use through various activities.
On the 18th of April, a meeting with the community will be held to present and discuss the potential energy communities to be constituted under the AURORA project initiative, either through the donation of funds directly to the University of Évora; or through a partnership with the Red Cross Évora for the creation of a self-consumption energy community with benefits in services or products for the participants.
Project AURORA was invited to the citizen science seminar organised by Akamediet for Talentfulde Unge (ATU). Researchers will discuss with over 100 talented high school students on the AURORA project and how young citizens can contribute to the green transition. The seminar will be held in Nobelparken, where the crowdfunded solar panels will be installed.
On February 15, 2023, a public session between researchers and citizens will be held in the University. Several different topics will be discussed, focusing on energy, climate change and its impacts, renewable energy communities, the Portuguese legislation in force, and its implementation challenges.
ŠEK invites students to coffee and donuts at an event organized by the Študentski energetski klub / Student Energy Club (ŠEK) in collaboration with the Laboratory for Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics (LPVO) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana. The event aims to attract and inform students from various disciplines about ŠEK and its activities.
Members of Forest of Dean District Council and partners from the Centre for Sustainable Energy in Bristol will host a community drop-in event at Oxenhall Parish Hall on Thursday 1st December between 3pm-7pm to discuss community owned solar projects, as well as providing wider information on energy usage and saving.
