On October 9, 2024, the University of Évora’s Colégio do Espírito Santo hosted the closing event of the #SomosEnergia project, a collaborative initiative with the Sustainable Energy Youth Network (SEYN) and the AURORA project. The event provided participants with hands-on activities focused on energy sustainability and climate action, emphasizing citizen engagement.
SEYN co-founder Susana Guerreiro was in attendance, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to engaging younger generations in sustainable energy issues.
The event featured diverse activities, including a solar oven demonstration organized by the Évora Renewable Energies Chair and a bicycle repair workshop hosted by Drive Impact. Attendees explored the AURORA Energy Tracker app, which monitors carbon footprint, learned about solar energy projects from Quinta Shiva, and visited the photo exhibition “Just Transition in Focus,” showcasing perspectives on climate justice.
One of the most anticipated moments was the roundtable “We Are All Energy” where experts from Coopérnico, the AURORA project and Culatra 2030 discussed the social impact of energy communities and the importance of community involvement in clean energy projects.
The event concluded with cultural performances by TAFUÉ and the Academic Group Seistetos, who brought music and relaxation to the gathering.
The #SomosEnergia project reinforces the EU’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 55% by 2030, encouraging citizens to participate in the energy transition. Luís Fialho from the Renewable Energy Chair emphasized, “It is possible to be a low-carbon citizen and contribute locally to the European Green Deal,” highlighting the role of universities and society in adopting sustainable practices.
