The first AURORA events and activities are already planned for the academic year 2024/25 in Ljubljana.
The very first event will take place on Saturday 21 September 2024, the largest emobility event in Slovenia called FutureZERO. The AURORA project and the Student Energy Club regularly participate in this important event. This year, we will be intensively presenting the AURORA Energy Tracker mobile app.
One of the biggest events will be right at the start of the academic year. It will be a professional excursion to visit a hydro and solar power plant. It will take almost two hours by bus from Ljubljana to Zlatoličje. Zlatoličje is home to the largest hydroelectric power plant in Slovenia. There is also a solar power plant next to the hydroelectric power plant. Students will be provided with an expert lecture.
Later this year, we plan to launch a photography competition on the topic of solar power plants, or perhaps even more broadly on renewable energy in general. The competition will be open for a couple of months (winter and spring) and the jury will judge the photos received in the end according to different categories.
In December, when it is cold enough, we will have a thermography workshop. We will take a thermography camera and walk the streets of Ljubljana with the students. We will compare the thermal insulation and, of course, the heat loss of different buildings. This workshop will also produce the first photographs for a photography competition.
In parallel with the thermography workshop, we will reactivate our service for students – TERMOTEKA. This is the possibility to rent a thermography workshop. This way, students can also have their home thermographically inspected.
Speaking of TERMOTEKA, let’s not forget WATTOTEKA, which takes place all year round, not when the weather is cold. As part of WATTOTEKA, students can borrow electricity meters for individual electrical appliances. This way they can clearly identify the major consumers in the household.
We will also continue with the regular monthly draw for users of the AURORA Energy Tracker app in the new academic year. This is a well-known and established activity where each month we raffle off a six pack of donuts to one of the AURORA app users.
