The Universitetes Energifællesskab F.M.B.A, which is set up as AURORA’s demonstration project in Aarhus, has been selected as a case study for the EU research project ACCTING (AdvanCing behavioural Change Through an INclusive Green deal).

AURORA demonstrates models to turn energy communities into realities across Europe in 5 demonstration countries: Denmark, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and the UK. In Denmark, Universitetets Energifællesskab F.M.B.A (UEF) was established as an outcome of the AURORA project in September 2023. The solar cooperative wishes to engage students and staff at Aarhus University, as well as citizens in Aarhus in a crowdfunding project to install solar panels on the rooftops of a few buildings at the university to supply green energy to the university. The initiative showcases innovative models to engage and benefit local community in a just green transition. Recognized for its achievements, UEF has been selected as a case study for the ACCTING project.

By selecting UEF as a case study, the ACCTING project aims to highlight successful experience of energy communities in Denmark, which will help researchers understand how municipalities and regional authorities can support the establishment and growth of energy communities, conceived as a tool for tackling the problem of energy poverty and facilitating the active participation of vulnerable groups.

“We are honored that AURORA’s demonstration in Aarhus has been chosen as a case study for the ACCTING project. This validates project AURORA’s value to explore innovative business models to engage citizens in an equal and inclusive green transition and provides an opportunity to share our experiences and insights across EU projects,” said Matevž Bokalič, work package leader in the AURORA consortium.
