The Forest of Dean has its first Big Solar Co-op community solar installation completed, generating clean, renewable energy at The Speech House Hotel.
The installation of around 150 solar panels on the more modern additions to the original buildings will help to underpin the green policy of the business. Local installer Nimbus Solar completed the installation, using ethical and sustainable Meyer Burger solar PV panels.
You can view The Speech House Hotel’s generation data on Big Solar Co-op’s recently launched live solar monitor dashboard. The tool also allows you to compare data with other Big Solar sites, and explore how much is being generated across the UK.
AURORA Forest of Dean and Forest Community Energy are delighted with this progress and believe the unique business model is a win win for the hotel and the environment. A great example of steps taken on the net zero journey and a demonstrator project to celebrate!

The Speech House Hotel is a former 17th-century hunting lodge set in the heart of the idyllic Royal Forest of Dean. A family run business that combines a modern hotel and wedding venue facilities in a location with a fascinating history.
It was here that Verderers court, for the protection of vert and venison was held. From 1858 The Speech House was let by the Crown as an Inn, with the courtroom still being reserved for Verderers when required. These days the Court sits on average only four times a year when matters concerning the Forest are discussed.
The Speech House Hotel is also a member of the Forest of Dean Climate Charter and has a Bronze EcoSmart award.
Our Lydney Solar PV Project, consisting of about 800 panels on roofs at Lydney Leisure Centre and the adjoining secondary school The Dean Academy will later this year be joining the list of completed and live installations.
