During the plenary session at the XIX Iberian and XV Ibero-American Solar Energy Congress in Évora, Portugal, our project coordinator, Ana Belén Cristóbal López, critically reviewed the regulatory framework governing energy communities. She highlighted the lack of specific legislation, which hampers their rapid deployment and increases bureaucratic hurdles. Ana also presented the current state of energy communities in Spain, referencing the latest report from the National Observatory of Energy Communities “Energía Común”.
She further introduced the status of two European Commission projects she is coordinating: AURORA and JALON. Ana Belén’s insights were well-received, highlighting her leadership in advancing renewable energy initiatives across the region. The full session is available on YouTube.
During the Congress, AURORA also presented two significant contributions alongside Ana Belén Cristóbal López’s plenary session.
The first, delivered by Cristina Sanz-Cuadrado, highlighted the comprehensive experience of the Madrid demonstration, focusing on workshops conducted with the university community during the 2023/24 academic year. The second presentation, led by the University of Évora team, showcased the collaborative energy community initiative between Évora and the Red Cross.
Both contributions emphasized AURORA’s impact and ongoing efforts in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
