Biography

Cesaltina Pires holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), an MBA from INSEAD (France) and a BA in Economics from Nova SBE (Portugal). Currently, she is a Full Professor in the Department of Management at the University of Évora, where she is the Local Coordinator and member of the Executive Committee of the EU GREEN alliance (a European University Alliance in which the University of Évora is a partner). In addition, she is a member of the Scientific Council and of the Pedagogical Council of the Institute for Advanced Studies and Research of the University of Évora. She was the Scientific Coordinator of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics (CEFAGE) from 2006 to 2015, being one of the leaders of this research center during its first two evaluations by FCT. Furthermore, she was the Vice-Rector for Education and Quality from 2017 to 2022. Before joining the University of Évora, she was an Assistant Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics. Her main research interests are in the fields of industrial organization and decision and game theory, but she also has contributions in innovation and finance. She has published in reputable scientific journals such as Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, International Journal of Industrial Organization, International Journal of Game Theory, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Annals of Regional Science, Theory and Decision, Journal of Policy Modeling, Journal of Financial Services Research and Quantitative Finance, among others. She is the author of two textbooks which are recommended in the best Portuguese Business and Economics schools (Cálculo para Economia e Gestão and Mercados e Investimentos Financeiros) and has supervised 14 master dissertations, 13 doctoral thesis and 3 post-doctoral projects.

Motivation

Mainly because I am the Local Coordinator of the EU GREEN European Alliance, in which the University of Évora is a partner, and its goals are very much aligned with AURORA.
