Crowdfunding

The energy community will be set up as a solar cooperative, which owns the rooftop solar installation. The cooperative sells the electricity that is produced by the solar installation to Aarhus University.

Since it is a cooperative, students and staff at AU can buy one or more shares and become co-owners. Every year, based on the shares you own, you get economic returns.

The shares will be made affordable to everyone. The cost of one share will be equivalent to the cost of 100W solar rooftop system (approximately 800-1000 kr*). Wouldn’t it be cool, that by investing 1000 kr, you get to own a solar panel that is installed on the rooftop of a building on campus, and you get yearly economic returns for the next 25-30 years?

*The price is indicative.

It depends on how much electricity is produced and sold in a year, and of course on how many shares you own. On average, 1 kW solar system generates between 800-1000 kWh of electricity in a year in Denmark.

The site for the crowdfunded rooftop solar installation is Nobelparken. It houses a number of studies from the Faculty of Arts. A preliminary analysis suggests up to 93% of the electricity produced by the installation can be used on-site, and the rest can be sold to the grid.

Due to delays in finalising the legal framework, we expect the crowdfunding to start in 2023. Join the Google Group to stay updated on when the crowdfunding starts.
