Motivation

Climate change is the greatest threat to mankind, and unless successfully tackled will cause huge human suffering and catastrophic economic damage. I fundamentally believe it is citizens that drive change and that tackling climate change cannot be left to Governments alone. Citizen science offers a way for communities to work together to tackle climate change. The AURORA project provides the tools and ideas for citizens to drive both the energy transition and personal carbon emission reduction. The AURORA Energy tracking app makes it personal, and the community energy schemes ensure communities, not multi-national companies profit from the change. For the first time in our history we have the technology to develop a global citizen science programme to mitigate climate change, that will benefit everyone who lives on our planet. AURORA is showing how it can be done, the task now is to go from “local to global” in our approach and truly make this the decade of citizen science.
