Matej has a broad and diverse professional background. Following his graduation in economics from the University of Maribor, he began his career as a stockbroker at a brokerage firm, later continuing in similar roles at two other major brokerage houses. He subsequently joined the Ministry of Finance before taking on the position of Secretary-General of the Slovenian Photovoltaic Industry Association. Prior to his current role as a researcher at the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, he also held positions at The Lotus Trust in London, the Institute Univerzum, and the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. Throughout his career, Matej has moved between the fields of finance and renewable energy, with a particular focus on photovoltaics.
