Project AURORA is working closely with the Green Deal Projects Support Office and Horizon 2020 projects in the Knowledge and citizen science cluster to prepare an EU Policy Brief entitled:
Citizen Science and EU Regulations – A new approach.
The brief is designed to show how citizen science can support the implementation of EU Directives and Regulations if it is integrated into the way legislation is drafted.
The brief draws on the experience of the experience of the 6 projects in the citizen science cluster as follows:
- Project COMPARE & SOCIO-BEE illustrates how citizen science can support the implantation of EU Directives tackling pollution at city and regional level and contribute to tackling climate change and air quality issues;
- Project I-CHANGE and Project AURORA illustrate how citizen science is critical to support the EU Climate Action Plan to be climate-neutral by 2050 and to adapt to the in-built global warming pressures now affecting Europe;
- Project ILIAD is an example that illustrates how citizen science can support the blue economy the EU’s Green Deal and Digital Strategy and the UN Ocean Decade’s outcomes and Sustainable Development Goals; and
- Project GREENSCENT outlines a competency framework that could be adopted to support citizen science programmes across Europe to support the EU Green Deal.
The Policy Paper will be launched at the final event for Project Green Scent on the 17th December 2025. Details of the event will be found on the GreenScent Webpage.
