A New Era of Sustainability: Students Innovate USB Chargers for Bicycle Dynamos

Share

On October 28th and 29th, a group of 25 students from the South Campus took part in a groundbreaking project to create USB chargers powered by bicycle dynamos. Through this initiative, the participants not only showcased their engineering skills but also gained a deeper understanding of the energy implications of lifestyle changes.

The current climate emergency, where the energy sector accounts for nearly two-thirds of environmental damage, demands more than just a shift toward sustainable or renewable sources like cycling. It necessitates widespread awareness and commitment to energy efficiency. By engaging in this project, students embraced sustainable transportation and maximized its impact by converting kinetic energy into electricity to charge their mobile phones, promoting energy conservation and innovative thinking.

The participants’ perception of these workshops is unparalleled. They enjoy themselves, build networks with students from different degree programs, share concerns, and unanimously agree that these hands-on workshops provide valuable, complementary learning experiences beyond what is taught in class.
