Deutsch Palomeras celebrates its solar revolution with a community farewell event

The Madrid neighborhood of Palomeras recently held a very special celebration β the Farewell Party of the AURORA Project, under the slogan βThe Energy of a Neighborhood That Shines on Its Own.β On the 22nd of October and for one hour, residents, students, teachers, technicians, and partner organizations came together to share the story of a collective achievement: the creation of a citizen-powered energy community born at Palomeras School.
The event opened with a warm welcome from the school, recalling how, just a few years ago, the idea of producing its own clean energy seemed like a distant dream. Today, thanks to a strong community effort, Palomeras generates its own renewable electricity through solar panels and an aerothermal system that are already reducing emissions and energy bills.
The Technical University of Madrid presented the session βFrom Idea to Impulse,β tracing the origins of the AURORA project and the role of citizen engagement in driving energy innovation. Then, Palomeras School shared how the educational community turned a need into an opportunity, involving students and families in creative activities that linked energy, learning, and neighborhood cooperation.
The social enterprise Ecooo delivered one of the most inspiring moments with βThe Power of People,β explaining how more than a hundred citizens financed the project through participatory loans, showing that community trust and social economy can make real change possible.
The Palomeras Cultural Center team followed with the technical highlights: solar production data, energy savings, and environmental benefits. The celebration closed with a heartfelt βSolar Toastβ, featuring a personal testimony from one of the citizen investors β a symbol of confidence, collaboration, and shared future.
With music, applause, and community spirit, the event marked the end of a chapter and the beginning of a brighter one: a neighborhood that truly shines with its own energy.
