On 26th October, the AURORA team in Aarhus hosted a workshop successfully at the city’s main library DOKK1. At the workshop, participants tried first-hand soldering solar cells and assembled their own solar panels with materials provided.
Parisa Rahdan, PhD Fellow at Aarhus University, kick started the workshop by introducing the basics of solar photovoltaics. The participants were then given the opportunity to solder and assemble a solar panel using multiple solar cells, wires and glass frames.
At the end of the workshop, each participant assembled his/her own solar panel succesfully. The panels were then tested in the outdoors under the sun.
Participants expressed that they enjoyed the workshop. “I have solar panels on the rooftop at home, and now I know how they function and learnt how tricky it is to solder these extremely brittle solar cells”, says one participant Lars.
“We had planned to organize this workshop for a long time, and we are thankful that we can use Verdensrummet at DOKK1 for this workshop so not only university students but also citizens can participate. The workshop got more popular than we expected with people signing up to be on the waiting list. We could only take 5 participants this time due to limited number of soldering stations, but seeing the enthusiasm, we may repeat this workshop again next year”, says project coordinator Zhe Zhang.
