Madrid, June 2025 — The AURORA Citizen Lab at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid’s Campus Sur is turning dreams into reality. After months of community collaboration and preparation, the highly anticipated solar energy installation in Madrid is set to begin construction this July, marking a milestone in the city’s transition to renewable energy.
🌞 A Community-Powered Project
The installation, located at the Centro Cultural Palomeras, is the result of a unique collective effort that brought together 163 neighbors, students, and local stakeholders. This community-driven approach is a core part of the AURORA initiative, which aims to foster active citizen participation in energy production and sustainability.
Thanks to micro-investments from local residents—some contributing as little as €20—this project embodies the power of energy democracy and local engagement.
⚡ Technical Details of the Installation
The project will feature the installation of 43 kWp of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels alongside 2 high-efficiency heat pumps, providing clean energy and heating solutions to the cultural center and the surrounding community. This combined system will significantly reduce carbon emissions and lower electricity costs, contributing to Madrid’s sustainability goals.
🚀 What’s Next?
Construction will begin in July, with installation phases planned over the summer. Once operational, the solar panels and heat pumps will deliver clean, self-generated energy, setting a powerful example of community-led renewable energy.
