Biography

Xavier Simón Fernández holds a PhD in Ecological Economics from UVIGO and is a professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the same University. He is the director of the Research Group in Ecological Economics and Agroecology at that University. Xavier is transfer director of the Interuniversity Research Center for Atlantic Cultural Landscapes (CISPAC). He is also responsible for the Galician Wind Observatory (OEGA). He is currently the coordinator of a Life project funded by the European Union in the 2022 call, entitled “Fostering local engagement for Clean Energy Transition in Rural Areas through Energy Communities”, valid between 2023 and 2027.

Motivation

The ecological and social threats and challenges we face are of concern and require a multi-actor and transdisciplinary response. This is true at various scales, from local to global, including sectoral scale. I am working on energy transition processes from a local perspective to try to ensure that no one is left behind. By being part of AURORA I can share my experience in these types of processes and learn from others who are working in the same field but with other approaches on other scales.
