Marko Funkl

Marko Funkl, the mayor of Hrastnik, has become one of the most notable local leaders in Slovenia due to his dedication and practical approach. During his tenure, he and his team revived the “Kamerat” Workers’ Film Festival. Under his leadership, Hrastnik has implemented several high-profile projects, such as the “Sončna šola Hrastnik” — the first community solar power plant in Slovenia. This project allows residents to actively participate in energy production, reducing the carbon footprint and increasing the municipality’s energy independence. Hrastnik is also successfully tackling the challenges of the green transition and economic adjustments, making it one of the leading regions in sustainable practices.
