Biography

Erik Christiansen has been employed at Copenhagen University, in the Ministry of Interior (municipalities and health), in a Mayor’s Office (leader of department), in a housing association (General Legal Council) and at Copenhagen Business School (Associate professor). Erik has been co-founder of several citizens’ driven energy initiatives: Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Cooperative (Chairman since 1997), The Copenhagen Photovoltaic Cooperative (Board member since 2004), Hvidovre Wind Cooperative (Board member since 2007), Samsø Offshore Windfarm (Consultant), NetHeat (Executive Committee Member since 2016 – district heating), REScoop.eu (Board member since 2016).

Motivation

Being a coordinator for a large scale EU-project in the 1990’s, Erik got an insight knowledge about energy poverty around Europe. The importance of citizens’ engagement and involvement in local energy projects following the Brundtland recommendations and later the UN Sustainable Development Goals has been the catalyst for Erik’s motivation. Substantial climate change has reinforced the motivation.

Other Information

Erik lives with his wife in Copenhagen. Both of his adult children are involved in energy and climate issues. He has 4 grand children.
