AURORA is preparing an upcoming publication of an Open Access paper focusing on climate resilience in energy infrastructures across Europe. In times of uncertainty, where the electricity system is subject to increasing pressure from climate change consequences, climatic disruption is a threat to electricity security.
Solar Energy systems, and in particular, PV Systems are crucial to the energy transition to renewable energy, yet those systems face growing challenges from climate change. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and shifting environmental conditions can impact PV performance and reliability.
The paper will provide a comprehensive overview of photovoltaic (PV) technologies and systems, focusing on their resilience to climate change. It will include a literature review of recent studies that examine the effects of extreme weather events and the global shift toward renewable energy. Despite the growing adoption of PV systems, they are increasingly challenged by climate change. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and changing environmental conditions can significantly affect the performance and reliability of PV systems and energy security.
This paper will seek to raise awareness and ensure a sustainable and secure energy future for communities across Europe, empowering them to adapt to the evolving challenges posed by a changing climate.
