Thermal imaging loan service – getting ready for launch

Share

The Forest of Dean AURORA pilot have purchased two thermal imaging cameras that will be loaned out to the Energy Community developing in the Forest of Dean.  The cameras can be used to find out exactly where heat is being lost from homes and where low cost improvements can be made to improve energy efficiency.  This is a great way to make targeted improvements, save money on heating bills and reduce your personal carbon footprint.

The loan service is being developed in collaboration with some keen volunteers from our Energy Community – Forest Community Energy. The cameras, alongside a pack of resources, will be loaned out to the community from a local community centre (the Sling & District Recreational Club) on a short term basis.

The two cameras that will be used are the FLIR C3-X Compact Thermal Camera and the FLIR ONE Edge Pro – both of which are simple to use. Instructions on how to use these cameras, and supporting promotional materials can be found under the resources section of the AURORA website. The supporting materials below are freely available for anyone to download, use and modify as you see fit.

The scheme is just getting started, and we’re excited to see how it goes and the impact it will have on people’s behaviours around energy efficiency. If proven successful, this scheme will be able to be replicated from other community centres across the Forest of Dean.
