On the fourth day of the PV&EC Winter School, when the visiting students were quite exhausted, we allowed them to take a breather. We took them on an excursion. With a rented bus, we travelled from Ljubljana to Prapretno, a town located 70 kilometres away. There stands one of the largest solar power plants in Slovenia. It was built on an ash landfill from the nearby Trbovlje thermal power plant, which is no longer in operation. The amount of ash is so vast that it has filled the entire valley in these hilly areas. This has resulted in a high-altitude plateau, ideal for setting up a solar power plant. To be honest, it is not suitable for anything else.

We continued the professional excursion with a visit to the tallest chimney in Europe, which stands 360 metres high, once part of the Trbovlje thermal power plant.
