This is impressive, although it\u2019s worth noting that our user base might be more eco-conscious than the general population since some were introduced to the app during climate awareness events. Still, it\u2019s clear that reaching near-zero emissions is possible for all demo-sites. In contrast, tracking heating and transport consumption is more difficult. For example, in Aarhus, district heating means residents don\u2019t always know how their heating is produced, or renters usually see their heating consumption when the bills are provided by the landlord as a lump sum on a yearly basis, making it difficult to track their heating consumption on a monthly basis.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f063c86 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f063c86\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Solar Power Makes a Big Difference<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1b53e2c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1b53e2c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to the many users who reported using electricity generated from their solar panels, we can confirm that even in countries with greener grids like Denmark and Slovenia, users consuming solar energy have much lower CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emissions in this sector compared to those relying on the grid.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b647f5f elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"b647f5f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aurora-h2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/09.-App-story-02.png\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-image-8432\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aurora-h2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/09.-App-story-02.png 512w, https:\/\/www.aurora-h2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/09.-App-story-02-300x117.png 300w, https:\/\/www.aurora-h2020.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/09.-App-story-02-18x7.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">Figure 2- Distribution of energy sources for cumulative energy consumption and cumulative carbon emissions in the electricity sector for users in Denmark. There is a high share of users with home photovoltaics in Denmark, likely attributed to users\u2019 pre-existing engagement with climate awareness initiatives.<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab4bf28 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ab4bf28\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Transportation: High Consumption, High Diversity<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2ead5fa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2ead5fa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transportation is the biggest contributor to energy consumption and carbon emissions for all demo-sites. This sector also shows the widest range of values for users, which is not surprising as most citizens would generally have similar electricity and heat consumption while transportation could vary greatly for different groups such as students, remote workers, full-time workers, and retirees. We have also concluded from our initial analysis that this sector is harder for users to fill out, so more outliers are observed. Users report many different transportation types such as bikes, electric bikes, metro, electric trains, electric cars, electric scooters, and electric, hybrid, and diesel buses, but many users still report fuel cars as their main mode of transportation.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-84d8293 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"84d8293\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Public Transport is (Obviously) Great<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7105055 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7105055\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can clearly see the effect of using public transport on reducing emissions. The main factor behind fuel cars having such a high share of emissions can be attributed to users reporting mostly single-passenger trips.
